This course teaches basic skills of verification, argumentation, and avoiding deception. Students learn by reading resources prepared by D.L.S. and samples of seminal scholarly works (age-appropriate), watching short videos by professional scholars, and most importantly through activities in which they practice argumentation, debate, and identifying fallacies and deceptions. Methods include: Socratic style discussion; Guided research; interactive activities on the Miro Board – a virtual classroom tool with almost limitless tools; and use of high quality professional online resources. Appropriate for ages 12 to 14. Cost: $250 for 20 hours

This course teaches basic skills of scholarly research, argumentation, and avoiding deception. Students learn by reading extracts from seminal works of philosophy and logic, resources prepared by D.L.S. and most importantly through activities in which they practice argumentation, debate, and identifying fallacies and deceptions. For this age group, there is a large emphasis on the classical works of philosophy and reasoning. We will read extracts of classical works from Aristotle, J.S. Mill, Locke, Bastiat, Hayek, Rand, and many others. Methods include: Socratic style discussion; Guided research; interactive activities on the Miro Board – a virtual classroom tool with almost limitless tools; and use of high quality professional online resources. Appropriate for ages 15 to adult. Cost: $250 for 20 hours

Math courses are in age groups, as all of our courses are. They are not directly aligned with government standards. Math for ages 15 to adult parallels upper high school and (grades 10 – 12) with remedial work as individually needed. Since it is likely that all students will be at different functional levels, this is not a schedule driven course, but a forum for assistance and lessons as students are ready. Students will be assessed individually to determine their levels of knowledge, and then given help with topics at their level. Where practical, group lessons will be given. This group is age appropriate for the average student of 15 to adult. $250 for 20 hours.

U.S. History Survey 10-12

This course teaches the basic history and geography of our nation, objectively, through the lenses of many competing theories of events, from credible scholars. The course approaches the topic through pivotal problems and questions which all human beings have had to solve and how Americans did so – questions such as how to use our environment to solve problems; what our rights are; the proper role of government; and contact with foreign civilizations. The course begins by establishing the geography of the continent first, since this is the board on which history is played out after humans arrive. The course then proceeds through the arrival of the first humans, colonization, and the major changes in America up to modern times. Methods include use of the Miro Board for interactive activities; reading vital classical works; Socratic discussion; and a great deal of guided research on student topics of interest. This section of the course is age-appropriate for ages 10 to 12.

Learn about ancient Egypt by playing D & D ONLINE! The traditional religion of a thousand years has been overturned by a pharaoh who seems to have gone mad. Meanwhile, many usurpers want his throne. The only way to set things right is to travel to the underworld and bring the pharaoh’s murdered brother – the true heir to the Egyptian throne – back from the dead. Parental guidance: combat and mythological creatures. In these D & D based courses, young players learn world history from a fully qualified history teacher. COST : $250 for eight two-hour sessions (20 instructional hours total)
